Desiccant

A desiccant is a chemical substance that absorbs and holds water. They are designed to minimise moisture levels to avoid spoilage and contamination.

The most common desiccant is silica gel, an inert, nontoxic white solid derived from sand.

Other types of desiccant include: indicating silica gel, molecular sieve, activated carbon and bentonite clay.
